Blue Shadow picked up her third win in a row when she ran away from a smart field of sprinters in the McMillan Equine Feeds 1200 at Te Rapa this afternoon.
The three-year-old Dalghar filly had scored a maiden win at Matamata on May 3, then won a three-year-old event at Te Rapa two and a half weeks later.
Taking on older Rating 65 horses in today’s $22,500 race, Sam Spratt sent Blue Shadow straight to the lead. She travelled well throughout the race, then kicked clear in the straight and bounded away to score one of the most dominant and impressive victories of the day. Stakes performers Mystery Show and Alamer finished second and third, four and three-quarter lengths behind the winner.
The time for the 1200-metre race was a smart 1:10.99 on a Slow7 track.
Blue Shadow has now had four starts in her exciting career for three wins and more than $33,000 in prize-money.
“She’s a very good horse, she’s special,” Cambridge trainer Graeme Hughes said. “That’s the first time we’ve ever won three in a row.
“It’s sort of frightening. She’s a pretty classy sprinter and I’m looking forward to the future with her. The plan is to give her a break and then get her ready for the spring, so we’ll stick to that plan.”
