Dalghar 2YO filly Astara Group 2 Feature
26 Feb 2016
First season sire Dalghar is represented by a smart 2YO filly Astara in tomorrows feature race at Matamata - the J. Swap Contractors Matamata Breeders' Stakes Group 2. Race 6: 3.10 pm.

Following a trial win and a very good race day 2nd at Te Aroha on the 17th February over 1000m  Astara's trainers Donna Logan and Chris Gibbs made the decision to give the filly a chance in the group race.

"We're very happy with her, she's really well" Gibbs said, "She doesn't take a lot of work and looked magnificent in her most recent gallop.  It's a tough ask we're thrown her in at the deep end a little bit here in the second start of her career.  Sassy N' Smart is a stand out and you would think she would win, but if she could run a place we'd be over the moon!".

Astara was born and raised at Brighthill Farm, her owner-breeder Neven Botica, who also owns her sire Dalghar,  is as excited as we are to see the filly be the first black type representative for his sire.

Astara is from an imported Success Express mare Svita and closely related to recent Australian Group 3 winner Estonian Princess.

She always looked like an early type, strong with natural muscle, and being out of Success Express mare its great to see her with early speed.

She holds a nomination for the Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes Group 1 next month.
