Half Sister to Countryman by Dalghar at Perth MM 17 & 18 Feb
16 Feb 2015

The first yearlings by blue-blooded young stallion Dalghar (Fr) made a good impression at the recent NZB Premier Yearling Sale and his WA based owner Neven Botica is expecting a similar warm reception for his six youngsters to be offered at the 2015 Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale next week headed by a half-sister to smart Sydney galloper Countryman, who runs at Randwick on Saturday.

A half-brother by renowned shuttle sire Anabaa to champion racehorses and successful sires Daylami and Dalakhani( now a regular shuttler to Cornerstone Stud), Dalghar was a brilliant Group III winning sprinter miler that set a course record at Longchamp for 1400 metres.

His two high profile siblings, Daylami and Dalakhani have already made an impact here in Australia, the first mentioned as sire of the dam of Champion 2YO Colt and Golden Slipper hero Pierro and the second as the sire of Group I ATC Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner Reliable Man.

Standing at Brighthill Farm in New Zealand under the care of Nick King, Dalghar represents the first foray into the stallion business for Neven Botica, who has enjoyed much success in the harness racing world and as a thoroughbred owner through the likes of horses such as Moatize and Strike the Stars.

While his renowned siblings showed their class over the longer journeys,Dalghar inherited more of the speed of his sire Anabaa, clocking 1.17.40s for 1400 metres when winning the Group III Prix du Palais-Royal and posting a sizzling 9.70s for the final furlong!

The following year Dalghar went out third favourite for the Group I Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot behind Coolmore mare Bewitched and Aussie raider Star Witness, the race eventually won by Society Rock.

"He drew the grandstand rail on a heavy track," Neven Botica recalled.

"There was a definite bias and none of the horses on that side of the course figured in the finish.

"He retired later that year and I stood him at Haras de Saint Arnoult in France for a season and they will start racing this year. I have a couple in training in France and another one with Andrew Balding at Kingsclere in England."

At the NZB Premier Yearling Sale,Dalghar had colts from Honor Babe and Macavelli Miss sell for $130,000 and $85,000, the former bought by Australian Bloodstock and the latter by DGR Thoroughbreds / Bart and James Cummings.

"He's stamping his stock and leaving strong athletic individuals," said Botica.

"We've had a number of inspections at the farm of our Magic Millions youngsters and people have been most impressed, so we're looking forward to showing them at the sale starting on Friday."
