Trainer Roger James Delighted by Tavy's Success at Ellerslie

Roger James has trained a lot of winners but few would have been as special to him as Tavy's success in yesterday's Trevor Eagle Memorial at Ellerslie.

And the reason for that became apparent soon after rider Vinnie Colgan and the up-and-coming filly grabbed the $50,000 event with an impressive burst of acceleration in the last 250 metres.

er Henrietta, the Duchess of Bedford, who kept a share.

"I trained this horse's dam for Henrietta as well," said James of The Cat's Whiskers, who won two of her 11 starts.

Hutt, who approached James about taking a share in a yearling came in too, along with his business partner Filiberto Rayon-Villela.

Tavy came with an appealing pedigree, The Cat's Whiskers being out of Good Faith who topped the 1996-97 Australasian Two-Year-Old classification.

James predicts Tavy will be right up with competing with the top level fillies herself and he will now set her for the $100,000 Eight Carat Classic at Ellerslie on Boxing Day.

"She's always looked pretty smart but that was a pretty impressive performance today. Vinny never touched her.

"She will get 2000 metres as well so she's got a lot ahead of her."
