Quality mare Moozoon looked ready to deliver on the promise she showed last season when she resumed on a winning note at Ruakaka on the weekend.
Prepared by Stephen McKee for illustrious owner Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, the daughter of Perfectly Ready led throughout to record a hollow victory.
“I suppose on what she showed last season she was entitled to do that, although you never know how they will come back as a four-year-old until you line them up,” said McKee.
“She had been working nicely and I was hopeful she would go well as she has a touch of class, so it’s onwards and upwards now we have got that one under our belt.”
McKee’s original plan was to set Moozoon for the Gr. 2 Coupland’s Bakeries Mile in November but he is now contemplating a different plan.
“She does have a nomination for the mile at Riccarton but I’m more inclined to go to stay closer to home with her at this stage,” he said.
“Her next run will most likely be in the Taranaki Breeders’ Stakes at Hawera in October and then I’d like to run her in the fillies and mares’ race at Pukekohe on Counties Cup day.”
That race is the Gr. 2 NRM/Auckland Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes (1400m), a race that McKee won most recently with Culminate in 2009. In partnership with his father Trevor, he was also successful with superstar mare Sunline in 1999 and 2000 and with Pay My Bail in 2003.
