Improving Gifted Girl continues to impress
Reports: Pontefract, Tuesday
Weatherbys VAT Services Pipalong Stakes (Listed) 1m, 4yo+
GIFTED GIRL followed up her second place in a Group 3 at Epsom to land the Listed race in stylish fashion after a patient ride from jockey Tom Queally.
The 9-4 favourite had already beaten her closest rivals Ladys First and Ultrasonic at Epsom and backed up that form to win by a comfortable two lengths.
Queally dropped the Paul Cole-trained filly to the back in the early stages of the race, before pulling her out wide to make her move with just over two furlongs to go and connections seemed pretty impressed by the fillies performance.
Ollie Cole, son of the winning trainer, said: "We've always thought that she was a very good filly.
"She didn't handle the camber at Epsom and we missed Royal Ascot with her as we thought it was a bit close to that Epsom race.
"She didn't have a hard race today and she will definitely come on again for that and the plan is to go for the Beverly D. Stakes at Arlington on August 17."
Ladys First, trained by Richard Fahey, was the first to make any significant move but had no answer to Gifted Girl's turn of foot in the final stages of the race and had to settle for second.
Ultrasonic, ridden by Ryan Moore, looked to be going as well as any leading into the final stages of the race but got trapped behind the front runners leaving her unable to make any sort of impression on the winner despite finishing strongly behind Ladys First.
