Gr.3 winner No Explaining (Azamour) back on track
09 Jul 2013
A top run at the weekend from No Explaining (Azamour) in the US$200,000 Dance Smartly Stakes Gr.2 was even more impressive when we see that it was only her second run back after a 12 month break. In the 1800m race No Explaining from the Green Desert mare Claustra finished very strongly for 3
rd place, and looks likely to step up to Group 1 level next start.  Already a Group 3 winner in the US she has quickly returned to Group level with impressive ease.

Last Saturday smart English 2YO winner Azagal has continued the winning ways of proven sire Azamour.  Azagal became Azamour’s 32nd individual 2YO winner and his second this season which includes dual stakes placed 2YO Tucci, showing Azamour’s versatility as a sire.  Having already sired the Group 1 French Oaks winner Valyra and well fancied 2013 Irish Oaks runner Liber Nauticus the emphasis has squarely been on his middle distance horses but as a sire, Azamour has been as versatile as he was as a racehorse.

On the track Azamour was a winner at Group 2 level as a 2YO in the Beresford Stakes,  and of course at three, an outstanding miler winning the St. James’s Palace Stakes Gr.1, as well as placings in both the English and Irish 2000 Guineas over a mile. This fact, perhaps a little overshadowed by his illustrious middle distance career - featured wins in the King George & Queen Elizabeth Stakes Gr.1 and Irish Champion Stakes Gr.1.

As mentioned, Azamour has already sired 32 individual 2YO winners and 86 individual 3YO winners. These include smart milers Eleanora Duse winner at a mile, who went on to win the Blandford Stakes Gr.2.   Destined for Glory has proved his ability at a mile winning the Hong Kong Jockey Club Mile Gr.2  and Native Khan, the smart Gr.3 winner who ran 3rd in the Newmarket  2000 Guineas Gr.1 over a mile.
