Azamour’s connection with Royal Ascot will continue this week, when his lightly raced three-year-old filly Siyenica (Sichilla by Danehill) runs in the Group 1 Coronation Stakes over a mile later tonight.
Azamour has had a fantastic association with Royal Ascot winning two of the major Group 1 races of the week in his illustrious race career.
Among his four Group One wins as a racehorse, Azamour won the Group 1 St. James’s Palace Stakes as a three-year-old over a mile. The following year he won the Group 1 Prince of Wales’s Stakes over 2000m, both major races in the time-honoured Royal Racing Carnival.
Siyenica is owned and raced by her breeder His Highness the Aga Khan who raced and stands her sire Azamour at Gilltown Stud in Ireland. From her four race day appearances to-date, she starts in only her second stakes race having found the heavy track in her last start, at Group 1 level at Longchamp not to her liking.
Siyenica is one of a number of high-class Azamour performers this season which include Epsom Group 2 2nd Gifted Girl and Group 3 Musidora Winner Liber Nauticus, who was 5th at Epsom in The Oaks last month.
Azamour has started his exciting journey to the southern hemisphere by entering quarantine in Newmarket. Our son Benji, who has been associated with Vinery Stud for the past three years, earlier this year won the New South Wales Breeders’ Scholarship to study the Thoroughbred Breeding Course at The Irish National Stud.
On completion of his course, and on route back to Vinery Stud, he will be catching up with Azamour and travelling with him from Newmarket. He'll stay with him for the two weeks of Quarentine in Auckland until he arrives, to much anticipation, here at Brighthill Farm at the beginning of August.
