In NZ racing news, it has been confirmed that exciting 2YO gelding Al Strada (Perfectly Ready-Penny Arcade, by Straussbrook) has been sold to Hong Kong interests, reports the informant.co.nz. Al Strada was New Zealand's highest rated 2YO male this season.
A stakes-winner at only his third start, next up Al Strada was third at Gr1 level in the Gr1 ARC Diamond Stakes before being runner-up in the Gr1 Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes at the end of March. Co-owner and trainer Jason Price commented, "After what he's achieved for us this season he'll always be a special horse and we had mixed feelings about selling him, but in the end the money got too big to resist... Paying the bills and getting yourself established in this business is not easy, so what we got for him will be a big help in that respect."
The Prices have been particularly astute in purchasing stock of Perfectly Ready at NZB Karaka Yearling Sale, having also selected Gr2 Matamata Breeders' Stakes third Queen Boudicca (Perfectly Ready-Qwikchik, by Grosvenor) in 2010.
Al Strada was a NZ$22,500 purchase at Karaka 2012 from the draft of Brighthill Farm (bred by Nick and Anne-marie King) and has already won NZ$101,625 from his first 5 starts.
