Champion two-year-old elect Pierro (Lonhro) maintained his unbeaten record with a taking one and three quarter length victory in the Sires’ Produce Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m), defeating the talented All Too Hard (Casino Prince) .
Dalghar's connection... Pierro is by Lonhro from Miss Right Note (IRE) who is by Daylami, Dalghar's half brother.
Pierro is assembling an impressive record with wins in the Breeders’ Plate (Listed, 1000m), Silver Slipper (Gr 2, 1100m), Todman Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m), Golden Slipper (Gr 1, 1200m) and now the Sires’ Produce. His performances prior to Saturday could be described as tough or hard fought but at Randwick on Saturday he exhibited serious class and acceleration, which is usually seen on a horse of the highest calibre.
Sentiments were echoed by his champion trainer Gai Waterhouse, “He wins every race he has gone in. He wins every major and they still question him. They must all be blind and deaf, the poor buggers.”
On the undercard the Gerald Ryan and Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) show continued with yet another stakes winner for the sire and trainer combination, when Dances On Stars (Snitzel) took the Kindergarten Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m). Ryan has now saddled four stakes winners by Snitzel this season alone and is building a strong affinity with the progeny of his former Group One winning trainee. Dances On Stars won well off a break, he did get all the favours in the run and only won by a neck but this was a good step up on his previous performances. The runner-up Agueda (General Nediym) was forced to cover more ground, while the third placed Ichihara (General Nediym) was held up hopelessly in the straight and would have gone close to winning with even luck in the run.
