Filly runs up to expectations

Pre-race confidence in Ruakaka debutant El Sagrado wasn’t misplaced and the English-bred filly ran out a commanding winner.
The three-year-old, who had won at the Cambridge trials last month, was forced to cover extra ground from the outside gate but when rider Leith Innes asked her to sprint on straightening she responded to win with ease.
“She’s a lovely filly and while Leith sat three wide she relaxed well,” said Wayne Pike, whose son Tony trains the filly with Mark Donoghue.
“She’s a Northern Hemisphere-bred so she’s six months younger than anything else. It was a good effort and she was very professional at the trials. We were confident.”
Bred and raced by Raffles Farm, El Sagrado is a half-sister by Azamour to the dual American Group Three winner Pachattack. They are out of the Red Ransom mare El Laoob, a half-sister to former top Singapore performer Big Maverick, and her High Chaparral colt (Lot 459) will be offered through the Curraghmore draft later this month at the Premier Sale at Karaka.
